Causes of Gap Teeth

We’re proud providers of Fast Braces and Invisalign at the Bridges Smiles Dental Group in Somerset County. They’re great options for people who want to fix cosmetic problems with their tooth alignment, such as a gap (or diastema) between their upper front teeth. But determining the right course of orthodontic treatment requires us to learn more about what caused the gap.

Sometimes, the teeth are misaligned due to not having enough room to erupt. Fast Braces are good for minor problems, as is Invisalign, but major orthodontic work will require traditional braces.  If a gap is really the only problem, it may be possible to simply cover it up with veneers, which are false fronts for teeth that can be made in a slightly different shape. These are also a good option for when the teeth are stained or have minor cracks.

It is also important to be mindful of factors that may prevent the teeth from closing. If the strip of tissue called the labial frenum, which connects the inside of the upper lip to the jaw, is overly large, it will have to be reduced. If a patient involuntarily thrusts their tongue forward when they swallow, an overbite will develop along with a diastema and the assistance of an ear, nose, and throat doctor will be needed.

Advancements in Dental Technology

At Bridge Smile Dental Group P.A., we take priority in having the latest dental technology in our office. Advancements in new dental technology allow us to offer better solutions to patients to improve oral health like never before. Patients will benefit from less-invasive dental procedures and newer techniques that are more comfortable, durable, and efficient.

One of the latest advancements in dental technology includes digital X-rays. Digital X-rays reduce a patient’s exposure to radiation and allow images to be projected right on the screen in front of you. This modern technique is more comfortable than previous X-rays and gives our doctors a more in-depth look inside the mouth. All of our dental advancements play an important role in improving your oral health while making you as comfortable as possible.

If you have questions or concerns about dental technology, please give us a call. To learn more about the services we provide at our office, visit www.bridgesmilesdental.com for more information. Sleep Apnea and the Heart

Sleep apnea is not only a serious medical condition, but left untreated it can lead to a plethora of other health issues and is dangerous for the heart.  A patient with sleep apnea does not breathe properly during sleep, resulting in low oxygen levels throughout the entire body. Breathing supplies lungs with oxygen but also the rest of the body.  When there is a lack of oxygen, the part of the heart responsible for moving oxygenated blood to the organs and extremities is forced to work extra hard.  This can cause an enlarged heart and eventually heart failure.

Those living with untreated sleep apnea are at a higher risk of developing irregular heartbeats, and also have a higher risk for a stroke and heart attack.  Men with untreated sleep apnea are actually living with double the risk for a stroke.  If you have yet to find a solution for sleep apnea, please visit Bridge Smiles Dental Group for a consultation.
