Digital Imaging in Dentistry

Bridge Smiles Dental Group brings you the latest in dental care through our digital office. Our imaging software not only allows us to design treatments and devices for our patients with improved accuracy, it also provides a safer, more comfortable experience at the clinic. Crucial to our office is our digital x-ray machine, the Panorex.

Digital x-rays eliminate the need for the patient to hold film in their mouth while images are taken. Though the patient will have to bite on a jaw aligner while the panels of the Panorex rotate around their head, this process should only take about twenty seconds. During this time, the patient’s chin will rest on an adjustable ledge, making the Panorex easily adaptable to wheelchair users.

The image taken from a Panorex shows a panoramic view of the patient’s mouth, making it an improvement over traditional x-rays which only showed a portion. The images are also fully integrated into our software for planning orthodontics and extractions. Patients will still need to remove metal and jewelry but are exposed to much less radiation. The exception to this would be if the Panorex is being used in its 3D cone-beam mode. This higher-radiation mode allows us to take detailed, 3D images of soft tissues and nerves, providing us with a complete view of the patient’s jaw structure while diagnosing and treating oral pathologies and planning implant placement.
