Non-Dairy Ways to Build Calcium Intake

Calcium is vital for bone health and it’s especially essential for keeping your teeth strong. Calcium is usually found in milk, cheese, and other dairy products, but if you live a vegan lifestyle or are lactose intolerant you will need to find other sources of calcium. Our doctors at Bridge Smile Dental Group P.A. encourage our patients to eat a well-balanced diet to keep their smile strong, so allow us to tell you which non-dairy calcium rich foods are best for your teeth.

Cutting back on dairy or eliminating dairy products from your diet completely can mean skimping out on your daily dose of calcium. If you eat a plant-based diet, however, your body can get over 500mg of calcium without even realizing it. One cup of kale has about 100mg of calcium, while sweet potatoes have about 65mg of calcium per cup. Other calcium-fortified foods include orange juice, (but not too much because of the acidity) whey powder, almonds, and soy milk.
